Job Description

The HR Manager is responsible for leading and managing the company’s human resources function. This role ensures that the organization attracts, develops, motivates, and retains qualified employees while maintaining compliance with labor laws and supporting the company’s growth strategy. The HR Manager will oversee recruitment, employee relations, performance management, payroll, benefits, training, and organizational development.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Recruitment and Staffing

  • Plan and oversee full-cycle recruitment and selection processes.

  • Develop job descriptions and organizational charts for all positions.

  • Conduct interviews, background checks, and onboarding for new hires.

  • Create and maintain a database of qualified candidates.

2. Employee Relations

  • Maintain a positive and transparent work environment.

  • Handle employee grievances, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.

  • Ensure compliance with the Ethiopian Labor Proclamation and internal policies.

3. Performance Management

  • Develop and implement performance evaluation systems.

  • Support department heads in setting KPIs and conducting appraisals.

  • Recommend promotions, transfers, and succession planning strategies.

4. Training and Development

  • Identify staff training needs and organize internal/external training.

  • Promote continuous learning and professional growth across departments.

5. Compensation and Benefits

  • Administer payroll, benefits, and employee welfare programs.

  • Ensure salary structures and compensation policies remain competitive.

  • Manage attendance, leave, and overtime systems.

6. Policy Development and Compliance

  • Develop, review, and enforce HR policies, procedures, and manuals.

  • Ensure compliance with company standards, labor laws, and safety regulations.

  • Maintain up-to-date employee records and documentation.

7. Organizational Development

  • Support company restructuring, departmental setup, and change management.

  • Contribute to company culture initiatives, employee engagement, and retention programs.

  • Participate in strategic planning to align HR strategies with business goals.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Requirements:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, Management, or related field.

  • Master’s degree or HR certifications (e.g., SHRM, CIPD) are an advantage.

Experience:

  • Minimum 3 years of progressive HR experience, with at least 1 years in a managerial or supervisory role.

  • Experience in manufacturing, import/export, logistics, or retail sectors is preferred.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of Ethiopian labor laws and HR best practices.

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.

  • Proven leadership and team management abilities.

  • Proficient in HR software or ERP systems.

  • High level of confidentiality, integrity, and professionalism.

  • Strong organizational and analytical skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
