Job Description

CHADET Ethiopia is a non-profit national development organization registered in Ethiopia that works to protect and promote the welfare of children found in difficult circumstances. CHADET would like to hire competent staff to coordinate and execute a project designed to promote the safeguarding of children in selected Kebeles of Wolisso Woreda, South West Shoa Zone, in the Oromiya Region. The positions and key tasks that are expected of the candidate are outlined as follows:

  • Job Title: Education and Gender Officer

  • Number of posts available: one (Only Female)

  • Duty Station: Wolisso town

  • Reports to: The project coordinator

CHADET is seeking a qualified and motivated Gender and Education Officer to coordinate field-level activities of our child protection and education project in Wolliso Woreda. The role focuses on strengthening gender equality, preventing school-related gender-based violence, promoting positive approaches to disciplining in schools, and empowering children to actively 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Under the general guidance of the organization and direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Gender and Education Officer will:

  1. Gender and Child Protection

  • Establish and maintain a gender-sensitive database and ensure timely verification of data.

  • Follow up and handle cases of gender-based violence (GBV), working closely with project case workers and relevant institutions.

  • Support the development and implementation of case management and referral pathways for child protection issues.

  • Collaborate with the Office of Women, Children and Social Affairs, schools, and communities to strengthen institutional response to GBV and child rights violations.

  1. Education and School Engagement

  • Work closely with teachers and school administrations to strengthen Positive Approaches to Disciplining (PAD) in target schools.

  • Support the establishment and strengthening of Girls’and Good brother clubs, including the provision of life-skills and leadership training.

  • Facilitate safe reporting mechanisms (e.g., letter-link boxes) for children to report violence and abuse.

  • Enhance extracurricular and awareness activities (mini-media, campaigns, creative arts) to promote non-violence, equality, and respect for rights.

  1. Capacity Building and Community Engagement

  • Motivate and build the capacity of duty bearers (teachers, school leaders, CPCs, caregivers, community leaders) to protect children and enforce child protection laws.

  • Organize and facilitate Community Conversations (CCs) and awareness campaigns to reduce harmful practices and promote non-violent parenting.

  • Encourage child participation in community and institutional decision-making processes.

  1. Planning, Monitoring, and Reporting

  • Develop and submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly work plans and reports to the Project Coordinator.

  • Document and share best practices, challenges, and lessons learned.

  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluation processes, ensuring gender and child protection indicators are met.

Job Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies, Education, Social Work, Psychology, Child Development, or related field.

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in child protection, education, or gender-focused programs.

  • Practical experience in case management and referral pathways for GBV/child protection.

  • Strong facilitation, training, and community mobilization skills.

  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills.

  • Fluency in English and Afan Oromo is required.
