Job Description

EthioChicken is a leading distributor of chickens to rural farmers in Ethiopia. We are a rapidly growing Company that believes in investing in our employees and offers them opportunities for career advancement. EthioChicken is an Ethiopian based company.

Our Vision:

Our vision is to provide one chicken per person per year through smallholder farmers.

Our Purpose:

Our purpose is making farmers of Ethiopia healthier and wealthier.

The position will be responsible for conducting and supervising the weekly chick quality trials to evaluate the performance of breeder farms, hatcheries, setter or hatcher machines and vaccination performance. The role requires rearing day-old chicks for one week, and record daily mortality, performance and perform postmortems. The Trial manager will coordinate closely with the hatchery and farm managers and follow directives from Production Director. The ideal candidate must be physically active, adaptable and able to work independently, and possess strong communication and organizational skills.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Run 7-day brooding trials from every hatch from the hatchery.

  • Receive day-old chicks 4 times per week as hatches are pulled in the hatchery

  • Label every hatch and pen with setter, hatcher, breeder farm, flock age, and hatchery vaccinator name for traceability.

  • Rear each hatch separately for 7 days under the same management and biosecurity.

  • Keep complete records so results can be traced back to the source and used for corrective actions.

  • Weigh and count all birds on placement day (day 0) and 7th day and calculate average body weight.

  • Record mortality and perform postmortems daily and share photos and findings the same day with possible cause (e.g., dehydration, yolk sac infection).

  • Collect and record high-quality data and keep all pens well maintained, clearly labeled, and secure so birds cannot mix.

  • Keep the same brooding temperature, lighting, bedding, feeders, drinkers, and ventilation in every pen to avoid performance differences caused by management.

  • At 2–4 h and 24 h post‑placement, perform crop‑fill checks; ensure proper temperature, light, feed and water access and correct deviations immediately

  • Supervise staff and daily work, and keep strict farm biosecurity, wear PPE, use footbaths, disinfect vehicles and tools, and record all visitors.

  • Ensure the pen, feeders and drinkers are disinfected at the end of trial (7th day) and bedding is removed.

  • Escalate logistics delays (e.g., feed did not arrive, phone down) immediately and document impact on trial

  • Strictly implement AGP’s quality and biosecurity procedures throughout operations

  • Ensure proper functioning of farm equipment, follow maintenance protocols, coordinate repairs as needed and maintain farm inventory.

  • Accurately follow tasks and directives issued by the Production Director.

  • Perform effectively under pressure in high-demand or time-sensitive conditions.

  • Communicate clearly in English, both written and spoken, for internal reporting and coordination

  • Proficiently use Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, and Outlook for reporting and documentation.

  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining strict confidentiality regarding AGP protocols, operations, and trial information.
