Job Title : Regional Sales Supervisor

 Job Level  :    10

 Reports To  : Upcountry Sales Manager

The Regional Sales Supervisor is a front-line sales leadership role responsible for overseeing and driving sales activities within a specific designated sub-region or zone (e.g., a city and its surrounding districts) for the company's full range of products (soap, detergent, noodles, and edible oil). This role involves directly managing and coaching a team of sales representatives, ensuring optimal retail coverage, product availability, and achieving sales targets by working closely with distributors and retailers in the assigned area. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Achieve and exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets for all product categories within the assigned sub-region/zone.

  • Drive both primary (to distributors/wholesalers) and secondary (to retailers/consumers) sales effectively.

  • Monitor daily/weekly sales performance, identify shortfalls, and implement immediate corrective actions.

  • Directly supervise, motivate, and coach a team of Sales Representatives / Merchandisers within the assigned area. 

  • Conduct regular field visits with individual sales representatives to provide on-the-job training, performance feedback, and identify areas for improvement.

  • Ensure sales representatives adhere to daily/weekly route plans, call cycles, and reporting procedures.

  • Assist in the recruitment and onboarding of new sales team members.

  • Evaluate individual and team performance against KPIs and provide constructive feedback.

  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with assigned distributors, wholesalers, and key retail accounts in the sub-region/zone.

  • Ensure optimal product availability, visibility, and merchandising standards at the retail level.

  • Monitor distributor stock levels, order placement, and delivery efficiency.

  • Address and resolve any sales-related issues or complaints from distributors or retailers promptly.

  • Negotiate promotional placements and shelf space with key retailers.

  • Ensure maximum retail outlet coverage within the assigned territory, identifying new outlets and market segments.

  • Implement route optimization for sales representatives to ensure efficient and effective market penetration.

  • Identify opportunities for expanding sales and distribution within the sub-region.

  • Gather and report timely market intelligence, including competitor activities, pricing, promotional offers, and consumer feedback, to the Upcountry Sales Manager.

  • Prepare and submit accurate daily/weekly sales reports, coverage reports, and expense reports.

  • Monitor inventory levels at distributor points and provide feedback to the sales team and management.

  • Oversee the proper execution of trade marketing initiatives, promotional campaigns, and merchandising guidelines at the retail level.

  • Ensure the correct placement of point-of-sale (POS) materials and proper product display.

Job Requirements

Qualifications

Education

  • BA/MA in Marketing Management, Business Administration, Management, Business Management or related fields

Experience:

  • 6/4 years of relevant experience as sales supervisor, Senior Sales Officer or Sales Coordinator 

Skills:

  • Strong leadership and coaching abilities. 

  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills. 

  • Sound understanding of sales principles, merchandising, and distribution channels. 

  • Ability to analyze sales data and identify trends. 

  • Problem-solving skills and a proactive approach. 

  • Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel). 

  • Fluency in Amharic and the local regional language(s) (e.g., Afaan Oromo, Tigrinya, Sidamigna etc., depending on the assigned zone) is often essential for effective communication.

  • Valid driver's license (or motorcycle license if applicable) and willingness to travel extensively within the assigned zone.
