Senior Chef

Designation: Senior Chef

Reports to: Head of Nutrition and Food Services

Salary & Benefits: Negotiable and Attractive

The Senior Chef will lead the kitchen team, overseeing all food preparation, cooking, and presentation activities for patients, staff, and visitors. This role is responsible for ensuring the highest standards of culinary quality, food safety, and efficiency in the hospital kitchen, while adhering to dietary requirements.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Operational Duties:

    • Oversee and coordinate all culinary activities, including menu planning, food preparation, cooking, and plating.

    • Develop and standardize recipes, ensuring nutritional balance and adherence to therapeutic dietary requirements for patients.

    • Manage kitchen staff, including assigning tasks, training, and supervising performance.

    • Ensure all food items are prepared and served according to strict food safety, hygiene, and quality control standards.

    • Manage food inventory, order supplies, and control food costs while minimizing waste.

    • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen environment, ensuring all equipment is properly maintained.

    • Troubleshoot kitchen operational issues and implement solutions.

  • Administrative Duties:

    • Develop kitchen schedules and manage staff rosters.

    • Maintain comprehensive records of food production, waste, and inventory.

    • Collaborate with the Nutritionist to ensure meals meet specific dietary and nutritional needs.

  • Leadership & Development:

    • Mentor and train junior kitchen staff, fostering a culture of culinary excellence and continuous improvement.

    • Stay updated with culinary trends, dietary needs in healthcare, and new cooking technologies.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Requirements

  • Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts, Hotel Management, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 5 years of demonstrable experience as a Chef, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or senior chef role in a large-scale institutional kitchen (hospital, hotel, or similar).

  • Proven leadership and team management skills.

  • Extensive knowledge of food safety regulations (e.g., HACCP) and dietary requirements.

  • Exceptional culinary skills, creativity, and attention to detail.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
