Nutritionist

Designation: Nutritionist

Reports to: Medical Director

The Nutritionist will be responsible for assessing the nutritional needs of patients, developing personalized dietary plans, and providing education on healthy eating and disease-specific nutrition. This role is crucial for supporting patient recovery, managing chronic conditions, and promoting overall well-being.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Clinical Duties:

  • Conduct comprehensive nutritional assessments for patients, considering their medical condition, dietary history, and cultural preferences.

  • Diagnose nutritional problems and develop individualized medical nutrition therapy plans for various conditions (e.g., diabetes, kidney disease, cardiovascular disease, malnutrition, post-surgical recovery).

  • Provide one-on-one and group nutrition counseling to patients and their families.

  • Monitor patient response to dietary interventions and adjust plans as needed.

  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to integrate nutritional care into the overall treatment plan.

  • Formulate and oversee the preparation of special diets for patients (e.g., enteral feeds, parenteral nutrition).

• Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate and detailed patient nutritional records.

  • Contribute to the development and standardization of hospital menus, ensuring they meet nutritional requirements and dietary restrictions.

  • Manage inventory of nutritional supplements and dietary products.

• Educational Duties:

  • Educate patients, staff, and the community on healthy eating habits, disease prevention, and therapeutic diets.

  • Stay updated with the latest research and guidelines in nutrition and dietetics.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements

• Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or Food Science.

• Valid professional license or certification if required by relevant Ethiopian regulatory bodies.

• Minimum of 1 years of demonstrable experience as a Nutritionist or Dietitian, preferably in a clinical or hospital setting.

• Strong knowledge of human nutrition, therapeutic diets, and food science.

• Excellent communication, counseling, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to adapt nutritional advice to local food availability and cultural practices
