Nunhems Ethiopia PLC is now recruiting qualified and result oriented Junior Field Technician/Agronomist for seed production.

Nunhems Ethiopia PLC, established in 2015, is the Ethiopian entity of BASF Vegetable Seeds and part of the German Group BASF. At BASF Vegetable Seeds we are dedicated to producing market-oriented vegetable varieties and seed products under the brand Nunhems. 

Reporting to the Area Production Manager, the Field Technician/Agronomist will be trained on the farm on how to manage and monitor the different vegetable crops for seed production throughout all stages of the crops to meet the production plan providing a consistent supply of high vegetable seeds.

Place of work:

• You will be based at Gesuba, Wolaita Zone, South Ethiopia Region.

Responsibilities and Tasks:

The essential function of this position includes, but is not limited to:

• Execution of Crop Management

• Manage seed production from soil preparation to harvest, ensuring quality.

• Direct agricultural tasks such as bed making, emasculation, pollination, extraction, sorting, and packaging.

• Oversee permanent and seasonal workers to maintain productivity and quality.

• Training and Supervising smallholder farmers on seed production 

• Monitoring standards for pest control, seed purity, hygiene, and disease management.

• Conduct field spraying and calculated chemical quantities for treatment.

• Develop and implement production plans for efficiency.

• Recording and analyzed cultivation data for accurate planning.

Job Requirements

Minimum Skills and Qualifications:

EDUCATION:

• BSc.in Agriculture/Horticulture or another related field.

• with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in the field. 

• We only seek to hire agronomists that have the required experience 

SKILLS:  

• Proven leadership skills in farming.

• Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation of human power.

• Good management and communication skills.

• Demonstrated analytical knowledge.

• Reporting and organizing skills.

• Flexibility, Accountability, Assertive decision making and collaboration.

• Able and willing to work under stress environment and should perform tasks independently. 

• Working mainly in the outdoor fields (must be capable and willing to handle field environment including heat, dust and outdoor climate) with minor administrative work.

• Experience with Microsoft Office.

LANGUAGES: 

• Sufficient level of English language is must (Both verbal and written).

• Knowing the local language (Wolaitta) will be an advantage.
