Job Description
Women Empowerment Action (WE-Action) is a feminist women's rights organization that has been operating across various regions in Ethiopia, including Amhara, Oromia, Southern Ethiopia, Central Ethiopia, and Tigray, for the past 30 years. WE-Action has four strategic goals: combating gender inequality, promoting gender-equitable and sustainable livelihoods, ensuring protection and lifesaving support, and achieving organizational excellence.
WE-Action is currently seeking to hire a competent, qualified and interested candidate for the position of WGFS Facilitator who will be responsible for the implementation of “Women at the Center: Enhancing SGBV Response in Crisis-Affected Communities (South Sudan, Ethiopia, Somalia, Burkina Faso and Chad)” projects which is funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) through Oxfam.
Description of the position
Position: Women and Girls Friendly Space (WGFS) Facilitator
Duty Station: Raya Kobo, Amhara
Reports to: Protection Officer
Salary: As per the organization’s scale
Number of positions: 1 (One)
Employment Type: Full time
Duration: One year with the possibility of extension based on the performance and budget availability

The WGFS facilitator will provide psychosocial support and facilitate group activities at the WGFS. Main responsibility is to develop activity material and facilitate group activities ensuring they are inclusive and tailored to context, age and vulnerability type. She also monitors the impact of activities and captures feedback from women and girls. The position requires a compassionate, patient and impartial and confidential approach to work with survivors of GBV.
Specific Responsibilities:
Friendly Space
Housekeeping of the space; ensuring that necessary equipment for recreational and structured activities is available and support on M&E;
Prepare/customize training and sensitization materials on GBV and available services for different target groups of women and girls at the WGFS.
Identify women and girls with more specific needs such as: case management needs; focus non-specialized PSS needs or SRH needs and ensure safe and confidential referral to the other services linked to the WGFS.
Activity updates and share them with the supervisor, identifying gaps and needs in the various activities carried out at the WGFS for improvement in service delivery.
Design and implement activities tailored to age and vulnerability type.
Identify strategies to ensure that (as much as possible) activities are tailored to the context and promote inclusion of different population groups (ethnicities, religious, minorities, vulnerabilities).
Gather women’s and girls’ feedback on activities, schedule and methodologies used.
Draft the WGFS workplan on a regular basis in collaboration with the WGFS -based activities staff
Keep the WGFS workplan relevant, up-to-date and innovative.
Review and incorporate activity feedback received by women and girls.
Refer GBV (Gender-Based Violence) survivors to specialized services (ensuring to not proactively seek for survivors).
Follow GBV guiding principles of respect, confidentiality, and safety/security and non- discrimination while providing services to women and girls.
Facilitation
Facilitate recreational activities and structured activities that help to facilitate develop/ reestablish a support network within the women and girls accessing the space.
Guarantee fairness of selection criteria and access to group activities.
Facilitate selection of targets for item provision
Facilitate community dialogues and community mobilization
Facilitate establishment/strengthening of women and community protection groups
Compliance and Performance
Read, understand and strictly respect PSEA principles and CHS.
Strictly follow and adhere to organizational policy and standardization manuals.
Safeguarding
Able to seek appropriate advice and report concerns, and feel confident that they have been understood
Understands local safeguarding structures and arrangements
Practices in a manner that seeks to reduce the risk of abuse, harm or neglect
Identifies and refers to appropriate services any other associated persons including family members and children at risk
Accountability and transparency
Implement WE- Action compliances to Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS) and develop
communities’ capacity accordingly.
Gather feedback and complaints on any concerns of the friendly space and formally document and report back to field offices with a confidential and secure manner
Knowledge of GBV: Possess a strong understanding of gender-based violence, including its causes, dynamics, and survivor-centered approaches. Familiarity with international standards, guidelines, and best practices in GBV prevention and response is essential.
Basic Case Management Skills: Proficient in identifying survivors, providing psychosocial first aid and referral to specialized services.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage effectively with survivors, colleagues, stakeholders, and community members. Ability to build rapport, maintain confidentiality, and work collaboratively in a team environment.
Community Mobilization: Build rapport with community members and mobilize them during project activities.
Planning: Develop weekly plan of the WGFS activities.
Behave Ethically: Understand ethical behavior and organizational practices, and ensure that own behavior and the behavior of others is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization. Ensure confidentiality.
Build Relationships: Establish and maintain relationships with and among participants of the friendly space, create a conducive environment.
Creativity/Innovation: in respective areas of responsibility develop new and unique ways to improve operations of the friendly space.
Self- Management: is self-directed, eager to meet and exceed objectives, and excited to take on more responsibility.
Gender Sensitive: understands gender equality and demonstrate gender sensitive and responsive behaviors.
Diploma/Degree in social work/psychology or related fields preferred.
1-2 years’ (for degree holder) 3-4 years’ (for diploma holder) experience in the humanitarian sector, particularly in protection and GBV.
Experience in facilitating psychosocial group support activities with women and girls.
Demonstrated experience working directly with survivors and can demonstrate understanding of a survivor-centered approach.
