About Geneva Global Ethiopia

GGE is an International Non-governmental Organization registered under the Agency of Civil Society Organization with certificate No 1724. GGE has been working in the education sector since 2011 G.C particularly accelerated education program and EiE. Currently Geneva Global Ethiopia is seeking candidates for an upcoming Emergency Response Program for IDPs and host communities in Ethiopia with specific emergency affected target woredas and schools of Oromia and Amhara regions.

Jabitehnan (1 position) and Dembecha (1 position) Woredas of West Gojam, Amhara region

Job Overview:

GGE plans to implement a Multi-Sectoral Education in Emergency (EiE) program supporting conflict-affected schoolchildren in West Wollega Zone (Nedjo, Menesibu, and Gimbi Woredas) of Oromia region as well as Jabitehnan and Dembecha Woredas of West Gojam, Amhara region. GGE is currently seeking highly qualified Education in Emergency (EiE) and Child Protection (CP) Program Officer/s who will take overall responsibility for the quality education intervention in emergency crises through a competitive screening process.

Under supervision of the Regional Project Manager at GGE field office, the candidate is expected to coordinate and facilitate  primary schools from woredas in the aforementioned respective regions regarding the  implementation of program components including Accelerated Education Program/AEP, Accelerated School Readiness /ASR and Home-Based Instruction/HBI, and gender and disability inclusion issues so that to ensure better learning outcomes through   timely implementation, monitoring and evaluation, as well as reporting of agreed activities as to the standard.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Need Assessment

  • Contributes to the design and execution of the rapid assessment of emergency education needs.

Program Implementation and Monitoring

  • Ensures the quality day-to-day implementation of the EiE and CP activities.

  • Conducts regular follow-up and supportive supervision with AEP, CBE, ASR and HBI facilitators, Social workers and Case Management workers to ensure the progress of quality learning sessions and protection activities.

  • Supports facilitators in effective classroom management and utilization of effective teaching methods.

  • Ensures that the teaching-learning process is in place in temporary learning spaces, rehabilitated schools or existing schools.

  • Engages parents and local community to take part in the school improvement activities and children's well-being through creating a safe learning environment. 

  • Works with the Parent-Teacher Associations (PTSAs) to ensure that children are enrolled in schools.

  • Reports any child protection concerns for the referral focal person

Capacity Building

  • Conducts in-service training for teachers/facilitators based on training need assessments.

  • Capacitate school based PTSAs, and Club members.

Stakeholder Engagement and Representation

  • Represents the organization in relevant external meetings at the Woreda and Community level.

Monitoring, Reporting, and Documentation

  • Keeps a record of the number of beneficiaries in the target area and track students’ learning performance using the Kobo tool.

  • Communicates weekly with field offices and/or the country office team.

  • Drafts monthly reports (on the organization’s template) and quarterly reports (on the donor’s template).

  • Develop and adhere to project timelines to ensure activities are completed as per agreed project timeline.

  • Execute additional tasks as required by the regional and country office

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's in education, educational planning and management, and related fields of study.

  • Experience: A minimum of 2 (two) years’ relevant professional experience in humanitarian project implementation including education in emergency and child protection projects.

  • Please indicate the number of years of experience you have working in humanitarian project implementation including education in emergency and child protection projects? 

  • Technical skills: knowledge and experience in formal and non-formal education, and experience facilitating teacher training 

    • NGO experience will be an advantage

    • Experience in emergency projects

    • Computer literate with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Communication skills: Fluent in spoken and written English and local languages of the project locations (Amharic and/or Afan Oromo).

  • Relationship building: The ability to build relationships with key government and NGO partners. 

  • Problem-solving: The ability to identify problems and develop appropriate solutions. 

  • Interpersonal skills: Strong negotiation and interpersonal skills.

    • Good technical and report-writing skills

    • Good communication and social skills

    • Ability to meet to perform her/his activities within a short period
