2.5 Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage all mechanical and electromechanical works during hospital construction.

  • Supervise installation of HVAC systems, plumbing, firefighting systems, medical gas systems, elevators, and associated services.

  • Review and interpret mechanical and electromechanical designs, shop drawings, specifications, and coordination drawings.

  • Ensure execution of mechanical systems meets healthcare facility requirements (infection control, redundancy, pressure zoning, air quality).

  • Monitor construction activities to ensure adherence to project timelines, budget, and quality standards.

  • Inspect mechanical system installations to confirm compliance with local codes, standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, etc.), and project specifications.

  • Coordinate with MEP subcontractors, consultants, suppliers, and civil engineering teams.

  • Support the preparation and review of technical submissions, material approvals, method statements, and shop drawings.

  • Conduct testing and commissioning activities for mechanical systems and verify operational readiness.

  • Identify and resolve technical issues related to mechanical works on-site.

  • Maintain updated site records: inspection reports, daily logs, work approvals, NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports).

  • Attend project progress meetings and technical coordination meetings.

  • Ensure health, safety, and environmental compliance at all stages.

Job Requirements

2.6 Required Qualifications

  • Education Bachelor's Degree (BSc) or Master’s Degree (MSc) in Mechanical Engineering or Electromechanical Engineering from an accredited institution.

  • Experience Minimum 5–7 years of experience in MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing) works on building projects (experience in hospital or healthcare facility projects highly preferred).Technical Skills Proficiency in AutoCAD (MEP), Revit MEP, MS Project/Primavera, MS Office Suite. Solid understanding of HVAC design, plumbing systems, firefighting systems, medical gases, and low voltage mechanical systems.LanguageFluent in English (oral and written). 

2.7 Desired Competencies

  • Deep understanding of healthcare-specific mechanical systems (e.g., negative/positive pressure rooms, isolation ventilation, cleanroom HVAC, sterile systems).

  • Knowledge of relevant codes and standards: ASHRAE, NFPA, FGI Guidelines, Ethiopian Mechanical Standards.

  • Ability to manage commissioning processes and validate mechanical system performance.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • High attention to detail and dedication to system quality and reliability.

  • Excellent project management and coordination skills.

  • Commitment to high safety standards and environmental protection measures.

  • Good interpersonal and team leadership abilities.

  • Strong documentation, reporting, and communication skills.

  • Willingness to work extended hours, weekends, or shifts to meet project deadlines.

  • Capacity to adapt to a fast-paced hospital construction schedule.

  • Willingness to be stationed full-time at the construction site.
